There are four offices. Here are a few pictures for you. There is also an outside room that could be used for storage or an additional office. It has lighting and has the A/C ducted to it. I don't have pictures of that one yet.

Here is another "before and after". With these brick buildings I believe that all the window openings should have windows and be of the correct size and design for the building's original period. So we had new energy efficient vinyl double hung windows installed with a single vertical divider.

The bathroom was small, dark, and very outdated. We noticed on the outside of the building there was a window that was closed off. I believe that if there is a window opening...there should be a window in it. This window happened to be for the bathroom. So we removed the sheetrock and had a new window installed. We also removed the closet that was next to the bathroom to open the bathroom up. Now it is much lighter and more comfortable. The new/old design is fitting for a 100 year old building.

Completing the Storefront exterior

After getting the final design ready we had our contractor come frame in the new storefront. We chose to use cedar to frame the windows and trim the exterior. Bugs don't like cedar and it holds up to weather very well. It is more expensive but it will keep this building looking great for years to come. We used tinted glass for the upper windows (yes the middle upper window opens!) and dual pane for the lowers. All the new windows are tinted and dual pane. This will help you keep the building cool and warm without spending a fortune. We also installed a new A/C unit as well.

Completing the Store Front Interior

Ok... now we have everything exposed, the storefront windows in, and a design. Let's finish up the interior store front area. We opened up the entry area to the height of the original ceiling. The original ceiling is beadboard. We chose to leave the original ceiling intact, so that if someone at a later date chooses to open up the tall ceiling all the way to the back of the building, they would have the complete ceiling to work with. We dropped down 6" and installed a false ceiling with beadboard to match the original design. We used all the original trim from the storefront that remained, restored it, and built down from there. We also chose to keep the areas of brick exposed as well. There were areas of the original plaster that were cracked and loose. We took down the loose plaster, repaired, and painted the remainder. I like the look of the plaster/brick mix. It allows you a peek at the history of the building. We also chose not to use much store bought trim. I wanted to keep the original feel and have control over the sizing and character of all the trim work. So we hand made our own trim.

Once we removed the sheetrock from the entry area of the building we uncovered one of the windows that still had it's original trim. So.. that is what we used to design the trim for the rest of the new windows. I love the warmth that 1900's architecture provides a space. We also chose the light green interior color with bright white trim to keep in line with the colors of that time period.

The Storefront design

We originally we had planned to put an all aluminum storefront system in. Once construction started we uncovered the original upper glass storefront. Once we saw that we knew we had to preserve what was left of the storefront. Thanks to the Jackson Historic Society, we were provided a picture of the building when it was new in 1908! Even though the picture was from a distance and not very detailed we were able to get a feel for the original design. So I built a computer model of my design to see what the finished storefront would look like. Also I wanted to try different color schemes. We chose the colors you see on the building now. They are from the color schemes of that era. We are very pleased with the final look of the building and feel it captures the character of the original design.
